Distribution, Logistics, and Transportation

When it comes to logistics, it boils down to location, location, location and the transportation network that gets you to your customers and suppliers. Effingham County meets both of those needs. We’re near the center of the U.S. and home to the meeting point of North-South Interstate 57 and East-West Interstate 70. The Illinois Department of Transportation recently completed the final phase of a six-year, $155 million project which has created six lanes of traffic through the city’s I-57 and I-70 connectors, as well as replacing all three interchange exits, reconstructing overpasses and adding a new pedestrian bridge.

The area is also served by lines of three Class 1 railroads. That makes the area an ideal choice for distribution centers and fulfillment operators.

Effingham County’s location and interstate access puts companies within a day’s drive of most of the eastern two-thirds of the nation, allowing affordable access in every direction. Canadian National’s north-south mainline and a major east-west CSX mainline meet here, and Union Pacific also serves the county. Local short line Effingham Railroad provides connections between industrial parks and Class 1 lines with remarkably responsive service.

Distribution centers and fulfillment operators will also appreciate our extensive utility infrastructure and abundant resources, including plenty of water and sewer, redundant electric power sources, and a high-speed fiber backbone.
